Basics of Nutrition and Your Gut

Updated: Jul 16

There are many things to learn about when it comes to nutrition. But the basic concept is “What goes in must come out.” Your body is like a machine: it takes what it needs from what you feed it and gets rid of the rest by urine and the bowels.

If you notice you have a problem about elimination, you should take it seriously and speak with your healthcare provider. Many people have this problem. Do not be shy. It can be a difficult subject to discuss but there are many people that are struggling with the same problem that may benefit from your experience and candidness. the long-term effects of these type of problems can be serious to your health.

The first step is finding out if there even is a problem. First you should see how many bowel movements you have daily. If you have one per day it is not a problem, however it is better to have 2 to 3 BM’s a day and more if you eat more often. But if you find you are having one per week or 2 per month, then you should inform your health care provider.

Some people feel that they do not have the time. The reason could be they are out all day and would prefer to have their bowel movements at home rather than a public bathroom. But let me tell you, you will keep your colon quite happy if you eliminate at regular intervals. One method would be to eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables, steamed beets and using digestive enzymes with your meals. Try this method out for a few days and see how you stomach adjust to the change. There is no one size fits all method to relieving many discomforts associated with elimination. It takes time and patience. Do whatever you can; it will be beneficial to you and your overall health.

Many diseases are linked to the buildup of toxins in the intestine's, toxins migrating to other places, and the stomach's inability to absorb the nutrients that are being eaten.

I have just lightly touched on the subject to stress the importance of something that most people might not find to be the cause of other illnesses. Take care of a minor problem today and look forward to tomorrow. May you live a healthy and prosperous life.
